Omar Victor Diop | Photographer

July 25, 2020 in Season 1

Omar Victor Diop is a Senegalese photographer whose historical auto-portraits, where he places himself in settings and poses previously occupied by historical figures, have been exhibited around the world.

Born in Dakar in 1980, Diop developed an interest in photography and design as a means to capture the diversity of modern African societies and lifestyles. The success of his first conceptual project Fashion 2112, Le Futur du Beau which was featured at the Pan African Exhibition of the African Biennale of Photography of 2011 in Bamako (Rencontres de Bamako) encouraged him to end his career in corporate communications to dedicate himself full-time to photography in 2012.
Omar Victor enjoys mixing his photography with other forms of art, such as costume design, styling and creative writing, and he has worked in fashion editorials and advertising as well.

Omar Victor's work draws inspiration from his African visual heritage and the international, cosmopolitan context in which we all live. We spoke to him via zoom during the COVID lockdown and the social protests against police brutality and racism taking place around the globe.

Robert Couturier | Architect/Interior Designer

July 05, 2020 in Season 1

Robert Couturier made design history in 1987 when the billionaire financier Sir James Goldsmith, who could have engaged any architect and decorator in the known world to do his bidding, followed his legendary instincts and entrusted the 32-year-old Couturier with what would amount to the single greatest private commission of modern times: the re-conception, execution, and continuous embellisment – down to the last gilded detail – of Goldsmith’s 20,000-acre kingdom on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Crowned by a 60,000-square-foot vaulted-and-tile-domed hilltop palace called La Loma, the estate, before the designer was through, would come to include vast satellite villas and assorted guest pavilions. He would later complete the grandiose picture by decorating Goldsmith’s Boeing 757 (”a flying carpet with a motor”), double-width Manhattan townhouse, and historic French chateau.

Robert Couturier is one of the most prestigious interior designers. His name has been included in Architectural Digest’s prestigious annual list of the best decorators and architects in the world, has become synonymous with continental and international style.
